Free tabletop game night — no app, no books

Fantasy adventures for your living room

You run the game from a browser. Everyone plays on their phone. The map, the dice and the big moments come alive on your TV.

Players join at play.couchcrawl.com · up to 8 players · ready in 30 seconds

How it works

From couch to quest in three steps

No downloads, no sign-ups for players, no 300-page rulebook. If you can open a web page, you can play.

  1. 1

    Open the GM console

On a laptop or tablet, tap Host. Start a quick game, or sign in free to run one of the starter adventures. You get a 4-letter code and a link for the TV.

  2. 2

    Everyone scans the QR

Players point their phone camera at the TV, type a name, and pick a ready-made hero or forge their own in a couple of minutes.

  3. 3

    Play on the big screen

Phones become character sheets and dice. The TV shows the map, whose turn it is, the dice landing and every victory.

No camera handy? Players can also go to play.couchcrawl.com and type the code.

Every seat has a job

Built for the whole table

For players

Your phone is your hero.

  • Hit points, attacks, spells and skills on one screen
  • Tap to roll — the dice land on the TV for everyone to see
  • Level up on your phone while the TV throws a party
  • Make a free account to keep your heroes for next time

For the GM

Run the story, not the spreadsheet.

  • Initiative, turns and death saves rolled and tracked for you
  • Monsters, hit points and conditions in one console
  • Hand out loot and experience in a tap — every hero gets the full reward, no maths
  • Ready-made encounters with read-aloud text and tips

For the TV

The whole table watches the same story.

  • A battle map with fog of war the GM reveals as you explore
  • A big banner for whose turn it is
  • Full-screen celebrations for victories, treasure and level-ups
  • Works on any screen with a web browser

Family game night

Made for kids, fun for grown-ups

Couch Crawl started as a way to play fantasy adventures with kids. The phone does the maths; everyone gets to be the hero.

  • Just a first name

Kids join with a name and a code. No account, no email, nothing to install.

  • Friendly numbers

Monster health shows as words like "badly hurt" instead of numbers, so the table stays focused on the story.

  • Easier or harder

Every starter fight comes with an easier and a harder version, so you can tune it to who is playing.

  • Not every fight is a fight

Calm the wolf, feed the ogre, return the stolen treasure — the adventures reward clever and kind choices too.

FAQ

Questions, answered

What is Couch Crawl?

A fantasy tabletop adventure game for your living room. One person runs the game (the GM) from a web browser, everyone else plays on their own phone, and the map, dice and big moments play out on your TV.

Is it free?

Yes. Hosting a game is free and playing is free. Players never need an account. A free account stores up to 5 heroes; optional Hero plans for people who want more are listed on the pricing page.

Do players need to download an app?

No. Any phone with a web browser works. Players scan the QR code on the TV (or type the short web address shown there) and enter the 4-letter game code. No app, no sign-up, no email.

How many people can play?

Up to 8 players plus the GM. Three to five is the sweet spot for the starter adventures.

What do I need?

A laptop or tablet for the GM, any big screen that can open a web page (a smart TV browser, a cast tab, or a laptop on HDMI), and a phone for each player.

Do we need to know the rules?

Not really. Couch Crawl is compatible with the 5e System Reference Document rules and does the bookkeeping for you: initiative, hit points, death saves, spell slots, experience (every hero gets the full award) and levelling up. The GM leads the story; the starter adventures include read-aloud text and tips for every fight.

Is it OK for kids?

Yes, it is built for family game night. Kids join with just a first name, monster health is shown as words instead of numbers, and every starter adventure has easier and harder versions of each fight, plus ways to win without fighting.

Can I make my own adventures?

Yes. With a free account you get a campaign editor with maps, fog of war, tokens, encounters, notes and a story log, 242 pieces of built-in map art, and custom rule packs for your own classes and spells.

Who makes Couch Crawl?

One independent developer. Couch Crawl is in beta, so expect the occasional rough edge, and tell us what broke on the support page.
